Born out of an opportunity, some old pieces of furniture and a streak of creative energy, Studio Wood designs bespoke furniture and spaces for the young (at heart) and the restless. Founded in August 2014 Sahej Bhatia, Navya Aggarwal and Vrinda Mathur run the collective with a fusion of expertise, skill sets and design styles. With an aim to metamorphose the perception of the Indian design industry, Studio Wood engages itself with diverse materials, techniques and intelligently added quirks to create the most effective, functional and clean products and spaces.
Building your own studio can be challenging, especially when you are a start-up and are capped for funds. Nonetheless the design team took the challenge and despite the cost crunch the end result proved to be exceptionally satisfying. The roughly 800 sq.ft space was divided in a formal meeting room, an informal seating for 10, a pantry and a break cum exhibit area. As you enter immediately the eye catches the Mondrian like envelope of the meeting room. The material palette of the frames intend to be a sample board accommodating fabric swatches, stained glass samples, wooden polish samples and alike.
Being a corner plot utmost advantage was taken to take in as much light as possible, to reduce the dependability of artificial lighting during the day. Work tables are set in a non hierarchical manner to as to promote social interaction within teams. The Pantry doubles up as a buffet counter during lunch hours for the employees and for a few beers on the weekend too!
All in all, our aim was to create a non-office, office space for the ever so fresh and energetic team at Studio wood
