Tuned Parabola was done for a design charrette in collaboration with Divya Jain and Neha Shirkande. The brief of this course was to design textiles for a business suite for foreign clients. Tuned Parabola has taken its inspiration from the painting style of Arvind Kolapkar. Kolapkar’s style successfully captures the rhythm of Indian folk music and his lines are delicate and curvy. This collection captures rhythm and celebrates relationships. The motifs that are designed for this collection are symbolic in nature. The colour palette has shades of teal along with red for the accent.

The aim is to create a hotel room which is interesting visually, but still comfortable and professional in its approach. Kolapkar’s painting style has a very distinct feel of Indian myths, Krishna’s early life in particular. His colour palette will be neutralized to create international ambience with an Indian feel. The delicate line quality and illustration style (flowy and merging seamlessly) will be preserved for the motifs or patterns which will be used with solid colour backgrounds.
This collection includes a pair of sheer curtains, a table lamp and a head board.

This motif features a bird and a fish, which are the two elements that are commonly used in Kolapkar’s paintings. The different elements of the motif merge seamlessly to highlight the flow and curves of Kolatkar’s paintngs.
Curtain Motif
This symbolic motif is formed using elements that are commonly used in Kolapkar’s paintings. Birds, tanpura, Ganesha, being few of them. It aims to capture rhythm and the line quality is taken from Kolapkar’s work. The different elements of the motif merge seamlessly to highlight the flow and curves of Kolapkar’s paintngs.
