Straight Up is a collection of photographic images by Cameron R Neilson made with the camera leveled and pointed straight up. The shapes created by the open space between the architecture of the buildings and surrounding objects repeat and change; they reveal forms strangely characteristic to each city, surprising yet somehow familiar. The abstract angle shown in these photographs challenges the viewer–particularly in a world where we often look straight ahead, or mostly down.

The concept for Straight Up, born in New York City, has now grown to encompass cities across the United States and soon into Europe and other parts of the world. A new image will be posted every day demonstrating this concept. Images presented in the portfolio link above are selects for certain cities which represent a quick but small selection of this entire body of work.
