Bella Sky Hotel - 3xn
A Designed Case Study Book
Sitting amongst an array of eclectic iconic forms that epitomize Danish modern architecture and define Copenhagen’s emerging Ørestad development, 3XN’s Bella Sky Hotel punctuates the horizon. The two expressive towers are caught in a faceted pose that enlivens the interior and morphs in response to maximizing views and wind load alleviation. Joined by connecting bridges the iconic towers dance together in the clouds, while camouflaging their physicalities into the surroundings each blending into one entity, together a playfully regulated patterning. Created to attract the international design community the conference hotel extends Danish design tradition with the unmistakable authorship of 3XN, bending the towers in an abstract, dynamic, scale-defying black and white cladding, which is one of the firm’ s signature elements.
This project consists of extensive research and interviews regarding the bella sky hotel by 3xn, but also the office itself as a means of grasping, or scraping the surface, of what the practice of architecture means today. The research was especially assisted by Kyle Baumgardner's and my experience working at 3xn.
