OBJECTIVES
Greenpeace wanted to create a campaign that encouraged people to petition UK fisheries minister, Richard Benyon, to get a fair catch for the fishermen who look after our seas and fish responsibly.

We wanted to create an innovative solution that was shareable, allowed people to be part of a community and also receive updates about the success of the campaign. We developed an idea for a personalised video petition that would run from Facebook.

We teamed up with award-winning Cornish shanty singers The Fisherman’s Friends to write a sea-shanty that highlighted the unfair nature of fishing laws, then spent a day filming the group performing the song on location in Port Isaac.

Once the film was shot, we designed a unique app in Facebook which allowed people to personalise elements of the video, watch it and share it with friends – and with the fishing minister. We also used the assets to create a secondary petition on the Greenpeace website, both petition points went through to Engaging Networks where the data was managed.

Brand elements were also created as a kit for a variety of offline elements, such as photo booths, flags and stands for PR events. Although the campaign ran in 2012, these elements can still be seen at festivals, most recently at Glastonbury in 2015.
