Borders Rebranding Project

Borders.
More than just a store for books and music. Borders is a learning center, a place to meet, share ideas, and explore. We're a place to grow— where authors, originators, makers, and the curious all gather.
what did we change?
We update the brand to more accurately reflect the values of Borders. Who said a smart brand couldn’t be playful and enjoyable? We will accentuate Borders’s playful and charismatic way of spreading knowledge with the new identity.  A common practice at this point in the creative process is to identify concepts related to Borders and its products or services. These concepts are used to inspire visual representations of the company. The concepts are community, growth, and inspiration.
history
Borders was a book and music retailer founder in 1971 and
based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. At it peak, Borders operated
over 511 stores in the US in addition to international branches.
With the decline of book sales and the pressure from their rival
company Barnes and Nobles making the transition to e-books
more effectively, borders went out of business entirely in
September 2011.

our mission

We are the cross-border connection between knowledge and people. We create new innovative ways to explore media, share experiences, and obtain deeper of knowledge.

about this project
Using analysis and research, this project seeks to revive a dead brand that is still within people's memory. The goal is to find its soul, reinvent it, and take it in a different direction more appropriate for the time period of today, while still keeping it attachment to the original core brand. This is a student project—it is meant to be transformative in nature. It is created in the spirit of academic fair-use and is not intended to represent the parent brand in any way.
