OUTERLIGHTS
OuterLights gathers a series of portraits which explores the symbiosis between light and its photographic model in an unconventional manner, where the light is not only an illuminating source, but it also bears a message, the features being blurred, making room for an appearance modelled by the images projected onto it. The subject loses her identity, becoming some sort of blank canvas ready for a new artistic work, turning into a complex composition, with its own appeal. The micro-expressions of the feminine figure are concealed behind textures and colours, only the contours and the prominent features to be seen, thus eliminating emotions in front of the camera.

Conventional portraiture is oriented towards character and its environment, always focused on telling their story. In the OuterLights project, the subject is no longer associated with its background, becoming itself a medium of expression, hence eluding stereotype, yet keeping internal emotions into focus. The eyes are the only remaining key to deciphering the feelings of a face covered by textures and hidden messages. The portraits of photographer Miluta Flueras bring forward an abstract game through his unique perspective of the feminine features and invite us to question our own conception of beauty, emotion, and the photographic art itself.
