As a complex and dynamic set of rules and functions, the urban environment is prone to developing select nodes of increased activity and interaction. These nodes often suggest the inherently social nature of the oppidan, or townsman, and their desires as a resident. By analyzing a range of quantitative and qualitative data in a section of Philadelphia from the 17th through 23rd blocks between Arch and Cherry a more visual interpretation of desirability was extrapolated. By using data that detailed the built environment such as green space, light quality, and public space in combination with experiential aspects including group size, social media usage, and smell; an overall image of desirability in the area was developed. In turn, an idea of what makes an area un-desirable was also refined.
