What does dialogue look like?
Every line of dialogue from classic stories like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Pride and Prejudice, and more were carefully examined and coded by hand to generate images that look like, but are based on text rather than audible sound.

How to read them: Each paragraph from the story is displayed as a vertical line left to right in chronological order. Line height corresponds to the number of words in the dialogue or narrative (longer lines means more words) and color corresponds to when each character's first line of dialogue occurs. The entire text of each story is available in each chart.
All literature used is in the public domain and was retrieved from Project Gutenberg.
