This small collection of artworks began as cathartic therapy in dealing with the traumas of my recent breast cancer diagnosis. I painted my very first self portrait only weeks after six months of intensive treatment. Frail and emotionally spent, I initially painted ‘FEC Me’ as part of my final assessment for a painting elective. It was this painting which led me to unveil my own realities, to bare all to myself and to stand tall in survivorship. Each of the paintings is a transmigration of the unexpected; an awakening of life. The explosion of fluorescent colours, tremble beneath the moodiness and my confronting representation of breast cancer. I seek to understand the emotional turmoil, strength, unity and personal relationships that are intertwined in life’s unexpected events.
