“The BASE Persoton is the world's most individual ringtone. It is the first tool that can convert Facebook profile pictures into unique melodies. The complex conversion mechanism was specially designed and programmed for the Persoton. The Facebook profile picture is converted into a pixel matrix, where each pixel is allocated a note from a scale of 4 octaves, creating a square of notes, measuring 16x16 pixels. Using chromatic samples from a synthesiser, an algorithm selects a scale, e.g. a pentatonic, depending on the brightness level and the precise number of colours. The more colours in the picture, the more sounds are generated.”
