A Design Study on Autonomous Driving Vehicle
The age of “AUTOmobile” is just at the corner. With increasing number of manufacturers paying attention to this field, it is quite close to the market.
But autonomous driving vehicles nowadays are built based on the production vehicles whose occupant package are not optimized for autonomous driving circumstances.
Project Concept R.A.Y is started based on the study of new occupant package in autonomous driving circumstances.
I tried to find what will the drivers and passengers do when the car can drive itself. The result is various. In conclusion, they can be divided into several categories:
Reading; eating & drinking; entertainment; rest; working; communication.

The idea of the vehicle comes from a kind of elegant marine creature: ray. It often move on the sea-bed smoothly. As one of the keywords of design, this vehicle was designed after ray.

The most difficult part in this project is the conflict between the configurations for driving and the situation when the vehicle is self-guided.
To solve the problem, I considered a kind of flippable passenger seat that can help the occupants changing their positions, and a sideways-based seats.
All these are packed in an independent glass bubble that is mounted on the chassis.

Solar power panels on the roof will be able to provide electricity for interior lighting and gadgets.

All the information will be projected on the glass bubble directly. With the application of HUD, most of the information can be integrated with the scenery behind. There is no need to look down on the meter cluster.
Taking advantage of the PEMFC, the power system is compact in the chassis, including the fuel cell, the motor and the hydrogen storage alloy. The flexible configuration allows users to change the cockpit according to different needs.
