External Cyclonic Filter for Vacuum Cleaner

Concept
This was my Master Degree thesis in Industrial Design.
My first idea was to develop a "new" vacuum cleaner.

I obviously started with a market research.
After benchmarking all the vacuum cleaners on the market, I realized that there are over 20 producers.
Every producers uses different technology, and for any technology at least one vacuum was on the market...

I stopped to think on it, and what I tell to myself was: there is something I can do?

After a while thinking on it, the answer i give to myself was: yes!
In a period of economic crisis, and with an eye on planet sustainability, my idea was to make not a vacuum cleaner, but a
technologic upgrade, for most of the vacuum cleaner on the market.

Just like you change the CPU, or add some RAM to your PC, I decided to use the existing motor of the vacuum, to make it works better.

Here all the steps,
Enjoy!
This two schemes are really simple: the motor create depression, the air is aspired in, and being filtered from the paper of the bag, or the filter.
Product using this technology have a good price when they are bought, but are quite expensive during the use: if users don't want to lose aspiring power, they have to change often the filter or the bag.

Luckily there are others filtering systems, like water filtering or cyclonic filtering.
Leaving the water filtering, because of it's complexity, I have analyzed in detail the cyclonic system.
The cyclonic filter system has inspired the British designer James Dyson to design the Multi-Cyclonic system, through multiple stages that consist of smaller and smaller cyclones that filters out also microscopic particles. Thanks to this system, there is no extra costs from the replacement of filters and bags, to the benefit of environment and consumers.ration system has inspired the British designer James Dyson to design the Multi - Cyclonic filtration system, through multiple stages that consist of smaller and smaller cyclones that filters out microscopic particles. Appendix filtering system are used for specific tasks such as collecting small pieces of waste in craft projects or collection of ashes from the fireplace. For their operation is necessary to a vacuum cleaner which acts as a suction motor, creating vacuum inside of the bin, so that the aspirated material, by gravity drop on the bottom of the bin.
The use of this additional filter allows to avoid that the filter / bin  of  vacuum cleaner is filled with wood chips, ash or any other material aspirated.
Assuming that the market did not need a new vacuum cleaner, I had wondered if it was possible to improve an existing product. Researching technology, and observing the system described above, I realized that the way forward would be that of 'TECHNOLOGY UPGRADE. This concept, known primarily in the computer industry, involves the replacement of some parts of the machine allowing a technological upgrade, without having to replace and then throw it all away.

 Thanks for watching.
