In light of Britain's decision to leave the EU we've seen country wide racism and the results have created a powerful divide between those who voted to remain and those who voted to leave. It's lead me to think about our similarities and differences as a nation and I've since been considering how these relate to other countries facing similar problems. I've been considering how race, ethnicity and consequential racism play a big part in these issues and even more so in international issues.
It's these ideas that compelled me to make a piece of work about it and in doing so I came up with the phrase "children of stripes" or even "we are all children of stripes".
I wanted to create a piece that nods towards this notion of unity and celebrating our diversity as a human race, our similarities and differences represented in the idea of contrasting stripes.
This piece was used for the fantastic project Ficciones Typografika, run by Erik Brandt.
