Malawian artists Tay Grin and Sonye jetted to South Africa this past weekend to shoot the music video for their hit song “Kanda”. The song which has also a feature of Nigerian act Orezi is produced by the “Tsika” hit maker that is Sonye and was released last month on 15th June.

Since its official release the song has made trends all over social media in Malawi and a buzz on radio stations, giving the song a lot of positive feedback; by its popular demand people have since been asking for a music video of the song. (Looks like all our questions have been answered. #KandaVideo)

Before its official release “Kanda” was first performed at Theo Thomson’s White Elephant album launch held at Robin’s Park on 5th June in Blantyre and got a good response from the crowd, which had them singing and vibing along to it, reciting the lyrics.

The song is taken off a joint EP which Tay Grin and Sonye are working on. Produced by the talented singer and producer on a catchy Afrobeat/Hip Hop/Pop type of beat, fused with Tay Grin’s Nyau music side brings that “manganje” sound to it and with a feature from Orezi puts in a feel of the Nigerian sound, making it whole stand out across Africa and on international levels.

The song comes after Sonye’s “Tsika” which was nominated for Malawi UMP Awards 2015 Song of The Year, while Tay Grin’s Chipapapa (feat. 2Baba) sits at No. 4 on the Trace chart.
