Bassano del Grappa, Dynamic Identity & Tourist Signage

Bassano del Grappa is a Venetian town of 45.000 inhabitants in the province of Vicenza and the near provinces of Padua and Treviso. The historic city center is a medieval town of great charm and appeal due not only to the architectural beauty but also oer cultural and shopping events that precisely the historical center oers. Bassano is a living city, famous for the lifestyle, for its food and wine culture, the typical products, the craft still alive and the various shops that attract visitors. The intention of the municipality is the revitalization and redevelopment of commercial activities within the historic center of Bassano and is therefore required to create a new corporate image and a format for the tourist signs.
The concept for the realization of the project takes shape as a metaphor that compares the Bassano area in an hourglass having centered around the historic center of the town. The first nucleus of Bassano owes its option not only to the defensibility of the site but above the strategic position that this has. Hourglass, in fact, illustrates in principle the exchange of resources from the mountains to the plains and then, turning the hourglass, the ascent of the products from the plain towards the city itself. There is however a second hourglass much more extensive. This is based on the extensive network of river and road links connecting the Adriatic to central Europe. The whole of passers meridian pathways for Bassano linking the North Sea and the Baltic Sea with the Mediterranean Sea. The first nucleus of Bassano can therefore be represented by a double hourglass graphic that highlights the strategic position occupied by Bassano in the European scenario and northern Italian. Obviusly the town over time has expanded and more specifically there has been a three-fold expansion of the walls. So if you multiply our graphic sign three times you get a matrix that represents the area within the existing boundary wall and that of the center. In this way each symbol generated within the matrix represent one or more aspects of Bassano del Grappa. For this reason, the logo may be composed from time to time by means of the suggestions and according to the needs of the municipality. In fact the various parts into which the matrix is decomposable can influence a sense of closing or opening, entrance or exit, or less stability, but also the combination of the dierent symbols can influence a certain type of form. Having based the identity of Bassano on the concept of the commercial hub of a vast territory, the logo will influence this feature in all varieties.
This translated graphically means keeping the central square of the matrix element as a constant in each variant of the logo.
The colors used are shooting Bassano characteristic colors. For the part of identity has been used the red color of the existing logo while the dynamic part and the visual is a sand color is used that remembers the walls and allows to have a strong color contrast with the part of identity is on a light background is dark . The logo will always be accompanied by the logotype or the clame "Bassano nel Tempo" and these have been used two dierent fonts to translate the ambivalence between the modern character and the traditional look of the city. The Fedra is a graced character belonging to the family of the ancient Romans because it was built on the Roman model capitalis used precisely to remember the Roman colonization of the city from which it takes its name and shape of the old town. The Radikal, however, is a stick san serif built on a geometric basis with clear, modern lines that transmit incisiveness and compositional freshness. Used, therefore, to represent the change of the city took place in time.
The project ends with the creation of an integrated tourist signs. This means that the classic format of panels made of wrought iron flat sheet will be complemented by interactive totems and interactive plaques. The classic designed panels will report the visual, the pay-o and the infographic of the concept and will be installed around the old town to direct the users within this. Interactive totems will instead be installed only at the points at greater pedestrian density and more tourist interest to oer to the city user information on places monuments, museums, itineraries etc. Finally interactive plaques with QrCode and NFC chip will be installed in every historic building, the square or the museum, so that you will have free access to tourist information and multilingual virtual tour where available.
