Fit In is the sister pattern to Stand Out, and its polar opposite - one celebrates the bright colors of nature showing off, and the other focuses on the mimicry of stealthy creatures hiding in the shadows.
The client's brief stated they wanted a camouflage pattern, and they provided some great references of camo designs with realistic forest leaves. Since the previous design we did together was full of flowers and birds, I thought of making a camo full of camouflaged animals, as the perfect antithesis to it. So whether you want to fit in or to stand out, we've got an option for you.

The original colorway was in ashen earth tones, but then I thought I could play with different colorways and evoke various seasons or times of day. The blue came out particularly striking as it feels like a moonlit scene, and offsets the flaming eyes in a fairly dramatic way while still seeming subtle overall.
This is the initial composition work. Weaving together a pattern of this complexity takes quite a bit of patience, but the final effect is kind of worth it :) All the individual elements are hand-drawn in micron pen and then scanned and composited in Photoshop.
