To Live Despite is a photo documentary that reveals the reality
of poverty in Cebu, Philippines. It brings to light the stories of people whose lives go on despite the circumstances, and of those
who strive against adversity each day.
Poverty has always been a global issue in the history of humanity. While this issue in certain locales has already been made known to the world through international and regional news media, there are many more of which whose stories remain untold or forgotten. The province of Cebu, regarded as second to Manila in terms of economic strength, possesses the most number of shipping and cargo vessels in the Philippines due to its location in the center of the archipelago. Also advertised for its scuba diving spots, fine beaches and resorts, Cebu has been one of the country's leading tourist attractions. However, this project explores and uncovers the other side of Cebu that the world has yet to take notice of—its victims of poverty, and the people
who have stepped up and stepped in to help.
