BArch Final Year - Building (3 of 3)
The building consists of a set of small to medium workshops dedicated to providing the service of lost steel industries in Sheffield. Anythingfrom castings and steel mouldings down to smaller objects such as jewellery andcutlery that would be sold to a high end user market such as Selfridges and Harrodsetc. Communal spaces reside in the centre of the building and offices where anymember of the public can meet with a designer and discuss their interest.
Light shards illuminate spaces that have previously been inaccessible. The large shard is directed at the only remaining building left on the site ‘The Royal Victoria Hotel ‘, this brings presence to the site and reminds peopleto not forget the sites industrial heritage and foundations on the city.
The workshops are clad in a COR-TEN steel kinetic façade. This breathable structure adjusts to each workshops unique tailored climate andis visible both internal and externally.
