Most of the restaurant uesd to have background music.
However, in FRIENDS, as a restaurant (in Hong Kong) for experiencing Deaf Culture, there is no background music.

To Deaf, Background Music is an unnecessary media while dinning.
Therefore is designing a music media player without sound, so as to emphasise More care more love, feeling more about the Deaf Culture.

‘‘ I suppose I don't hear things, but I listen, if you know what I mean.
And there is a big difference between hearing and listening.
So it's like a conversation, you know.
When you speak to someone, it's one on one, and that's exactly how I play. ’’

The project aim is at to encourage patrons to receive music though the sense of sight with the situation that
sense of hearing is hidden. See music from the perspective of Deaf.

The design expressing through a background combine with dining chair, and the backgrounds are the main site of music creation from the patrons’ neutral body movement.

Repeated ball structures are stuck on the circle background, if one of the patrons move neutrally, rhythmic wave created on the background. As the backgrounds are specifically put on eye level,
patrons could get attention of the rhythm behind counterpart.

One of the qualities in Deaf music is diffused in the design, which is emotional expression between musician and audience. Emotion produced from patrons who looked on the background wave, emotion may affect the movement of the patrons, and new rhythm of wave created based on different emotion interpretation of patrons.
