Tiger, Tiger (part 1)
Up until now I have always used pacer/mechanical pencils for all my wildlife work and even though I was able to capture a lot of detail with this medium I still wanted to try and get more detail out of my pictures.
About six months ago I came across an unbelievably talented artist by the name of Cathy Sheeter who is a wildlife artist. Cathy uses a medium called scratchboard and after looking through her artwork I was blown away by the finished pieces and the amount of detail this medium was able to capture. I purchased some scratchboard and tools and began experimenting. Scratchboard is a very unforgiving medium and mistakes can only be partially repaired with a very fine brush and some india ink.
'Tiger, Tiger' is my first attempt with scratchboard and took me about 20-30 hours to complete. I'm looking forward to starting a new one very soon.
