Well, here you go.  Here's my latest painting.  It was a beautiful (scorching hot) summer day above the village of Surdoux.  You know it's hot when you're in the shade and your oil paints begin to liquify more than normal.  As I'm becoming more proficient in my handling of my medium (oil paints) I'm always trying to simplify things so that I can concentrate on what is important to me:  the essence of a location, colour and texture!

     I'm pretty happy with this one, but I feel as though I was a little too relaxed and that I went a little too far with the simplification.  It is a really difficult balance between capturing the important details and simplifying the details that aren't important.  Details such as the ants crawling on the grass in the foreground can be ignored for example.

    I could have spent a little more time on certain parts of this one, but what the hell maybe not - it's pretty damn good.  In all fairness to myself, my nicely shaded painting position was quickly becoming under assault from the advancing sun:  I had no choice, but to paint quickly...and paint quickly I did!

Alors, voilà.  Voici mon dernier tableau.  Il était un beau (extrêmement chaud) temps d'été au dessus du village de Surdoux.  Vous savez qu'il fait chaud quand vous êtes à l'ombre et vos peintures en huiles deviennent plus liquide que d'habitude.  Avec mes compétences plus afûtés dans l'utilisation des peintures en huiles, je suis toujours en quête de simplifier des choses afin que je puisse me concentrer sur ce qui m'importe:  l'essence d'un endroit, couleurs et textures.

     Je suis plutôt heureux avec celui-ci, mais je me sens comme si j'étais un peu trop détendu et que je suis allé un peu trop loin dans la simplification.  C'est un équilibre très difficile à atteindre entre montrant les détails importants et la simplification des détails qui ne sont pas importants.  Les détails comme les fourmis qui grimpe les brins d’herbe dans le premier plan peuvent être ignorées par exemple.

     J'aurais pu passé un petit peu plus de temps sur certains parties de ce tableau mais, sur réflexion, peut être pas - c'est un plutôt sacré tableau.  Dans ma défense, ma position où je peignais était très rapidement en train d'être envahi du soleil : je n'ai pas eu de choix; j'ai eu besoin de peindre vite et c'est ce que j'ai fait !
