One of my favorite bands Ben Folds Five is re-uniting and they are trying to promote the new album without a record company. I saw this as an opportunity to do some fun art and help them with promotions. So I did this and sent it out to a bunch of forums. To my surprise yesterday, Ben Folds himself apparently saw it and re-posted it on his Facebook and Twitter saying "Impressive art submission from a talented fan."
Next I was contacted by a representative and asked for a higher resolution file. They are planning to use it on the pledgemusic page to promote the album. I am thrilled to hear about all of this and as a result I plan on doing a series of fan art for various bands and groups I like.
Process:
I first did this in pencil and then inked it with copic and brush pens. I then scanned it and opened it in Photoshop where I colored and used various effects on it. Afterwards, imported it into Illustrator to add the text.

I'm making a version of this for a T-shirt so I have to draw the rest of the picture from his shoulders down so that there are no borders. Ben Folds is now planning to use my original drawing for the single of the song "Do It Anyway"
I made an extended version of the cover illustration for in case they decide they want to make a T-shirt.
So, as a result of some fan art and a lot of luck I got to meet Ben Folds. You just never know. Everyone in the band was very kind and down to earth.
Also the whole band signed a print for me.
