Adjective Translation
This project was introduced in several steps.
First, I chose an unknown adjective out of a bag. OLD, is the word I would be concentrating on for over eight weeks.
Second, I was assigned to transform a paper bag into a mask representing the word old, but maintain the integrity of the paper bag. I began to consider what was associated with being old. My translation is based on the concept of wisdom, something that is gained with age. I used the iconic symbol of an owl to represent wisdom and included the physical attributes with wrinkled, leaf-shaped feathers.
The mask is entirely made of different, hand-cut paper stocks, individually applied.
Lastly, we were to photograph ourselves wearing our masks and design a poster. This poster was to include self-designed typography and a related quote.
