I have always found portraiture particularly interesting. Through a variation of medias, compostions, tones, markmaking and colouration, so much can be portrayed about your subject. I apoligise for the quality of some of these images.
Plasticine on card, A5. I love the textures that can be created using this partially 3D media. This is a copy of a photograph of Morgan Freeman.
This is a rough copy of one of Leonardo Da Vinci's sketches of men's faces where I have used aspects of the mouth and eye shapes, and Da Vinci's way of exaggerating the lines around certain parts of the face by making them darker, creating impact.
This is a self portrait using plasticine smudged onto a wooden board, approx A1. Whilst it gives an interesting effect, it is extremely time consuming and difficult to get the correct colours.
Quick charcoal life drawing, A3.
This A2 on canvas pen drawing is a self portrait which was on a project based on both the postives and negatives of gambling.
This pencil portrait was a commission by the Troublemaker Theatre Company, Norden Farm. I was asked to draw the cast as pirates that would be seen on a wanted poster.
A3 Acrylic, 'The Biscuit Man'. Despite not knowing him personally, I wanted to provide this man with life hence the colours, and show the textures of his face in a subtle yet real way,
I did this portrait of my mother using a willow stick and ink, A4.
A2 oil on canvas self portait.
This was an A4 pencil drawing which I scanned onto Photoshop and edited to make it look older and more striking.
A1 Oil on Canvas inspired by Da Vinci. I later attached a butterfly to his extended arm which I had found dead. It gives the image more of a purpose and depth in my opinion.
This I made by mixing pigment to PVA glue and holding the brush above the paper so I could draw the image with the excess 'gloop' from the brush. I then dusted it with ground orange pastel to gve it a bit more texture. A3.
A4 oil on canvas, self portait displaying melancholy.
I drew this onto photoshop using a Wacom graphic pad. Despite this self portrait being quite quick and sketchy, this is a media I'm trying to progress with.

Portrait Portfolio

This is a small collection of some of the portraits I have made in the last 4 years. Some are final pieces, some just experiments and ideas.
