Our project titled ‘app design’ is to design an application for a specific system (os/android) to cater for a specific audience, serving a simple task. As many companies are finding with the ever growing global market, the main focus is geared towards the users experience. Fluidity and ease of use are among the top objectives of the app along with its primary function.
This will be done by considering layout, identity and function.
The project will allow me to experience the challenges of designing for mobile application technologies.
We are not expected to code/develop the app itself, only the design features. Using the skills i have already learnt, I will be-able to show the features of the app as if it worked without the app going anywhere near an estore.
My proposed application caters for the e-commerce customers of the world. This audience could cover small businesses who regularly receive packages, to the average ebay purchaser; the market is large, the potential huge.
The main feature of the app is to simplify tracking packages. It would do this with a sophisticated yet simple mechanism to searching through your email in-box for key works such as ‘delivery notification’ or ‘order notice’ ect.
Other features would include:
- Estimated, updated more accurate delivery times.
- Visual tracking map
- Courier contact
- Return section
- Review of couriers
After looking at the market for tracking apps, I have found a position for the app that provides a premium service like the premium priced apps, but for free. I plan to do this (theoretically) by getting sponsorship from a large company that would benefit from such a service.
