The design within the building occurs through changes.  These changes correspond to the conditions of the site, such as each roof is configured differently based on the position of the sun.  The lowest part of the building is facing inward with operable windows to draw cool ventilation throughout the building while the highest part of the building is leeward with operable windows to flush the hot air out.  By stacking the program in this manner to have full view of the surrounding wetlands and vistas to the ocean.  Main circulation occurs within a central canyon space which minimizes the floor plate depths, allowing for light and air to reach the entire width of habitable space.  The location of the floor plans are influenced by the level of noise that comes from the freeway and street.  For example, the meditation room is placed at the highest part of the building and away from the freeway and noise.
The courtyard is the main part of the building.  The courtyard is used as a transitional space for the patient to allow change and understand within the site and within themselves.  The concept of the building deals with transformation.  The building itself is a transformer.  The form of the building derives from conditions of the site.  PTSD patients are to change and transform as well throughout the building.  The motion of the courtyard allows the patient to see them transition themselves within the central court of the building.  Each view of the buildings is obtained to the specific feeling and emotion.  When leaving the treatment center the patients are to walk back down the same way they came up to see and experience their own change.
