The Lovely Bones - Title Sequence Concept

In most title sequences, I’ve noticed that familiar objects are often used as foreshadowing what is to come. I decided to use imagery that related to nature. The main character being an adventurous young girl, who loved photography, and often being outside; this was the best fitting.

Using this element made it easy for me to be expressive and come up with my own story that still connected with the film. Not only does the plant life, and outside objects somewhat relate to each major character, but it lends to the tone of the film.

Throughout the film the main character is “stuck” in purgatory, still watching over the real world somewhat like a ghost. When playing with the typography I related that directly to the transparency, and legibility of the type.

Besides having the one layer of type that is legible, I grouped it with another layer that is not really noticeable in the background, mimicking the idea of a shadow, possibly a spirit from the spirit world.

The free willed characters in each scene move in confusion and are often blurred out in one frame and clear in another; these represent the characters emotions and thoughts going around while the deal with the tragic death of someone they love.
