ZOMBIE SAFE HOUSE COMPETITION
Pimp My Ride: Zombie Edition
June 2011
In June of 2011 I participated in the 2nd anual Zombie Safe House Competition, an open online competition to any designer, architect, or zombie enthusiast who wished to show off their survival tactics. The competition's only guidelines were to design a safe house for someone to survive indefinitely during a zombie apocalypse.

It was essential to consider:

How many people would you house?
How would they acquire food and water?
What is the method for defense or offense against Zombies?
Is energy a concern?
What luxuries (if any) could be incorporated?
How long could someone last in this safe house?

Each entry was to be a single pdf or jpg file, submitted online by the deadline. The image files were then loaded onto the Zombie Safe House Competition website and voted on by the general public. Entries with the most votes were then taken to a panel of judges to select the winners.

My entry balanced the need for a solid defense shell, an efficient attacking mechanism, and an ability to escape high threat areas. In order to accomplish these goals, I designed a series of retrofits for an armored truck. These retrofits include an extendable shelf system to house plants for nourishment, a dual system to capture solar energy while collecting and purifying rain water, efficient shelving and storage spaces to maximize the use of a small interior space, fortified doors and windows to prevent any structural failures, and a modified chainsaw mechanism around the exterior to eliminate the walking dead.

The drawings were generated using a Rhino 3-D model which I constructed of an armored truck and redesigned with the new retrofits. The model was then exported to Adobe Illustrator to incorporate images and text.
