  • For this project, we were to research and analyze the physical characteristics, as well as personality traits of fours animals, and then translate those attributes visually as symbols in three different styles.
The animals of my choosing were the raccoon, kangaroo rat, hummingbird, and the peacock.  I chose these animals mainly because I felt that they were different than some animals people may have seen as symbols, and I also wanted these because they each have a distinct trait that I wanted to show off.
The process for this project was a long one, starting with intese research on each animal, then lots of sketching, and finally transferring to Illustrator.
The three sets that I chose to do were original, angular, and circular. I wanted to have a visual impact when looking at the animals from one set to another, seeing that they slowly are losing their distinct shapes, and becoming less and less defined, yet still recognizable.

I learned a lot about paying attention to detail, as well as the importance of repetition and recognizability. Eventually, I took one of my peacocks and used it to create a brand identity, Plume.
