Orientalism for Akko - Akko has a rich historic background that has been diluted by new generic construction.
When you enter the city it has no noticeable remnants of its former glory.
In this project I tried to reinterpret the Islamic spaces and typology to reference the original Akko.
I used Voids and Masses associated with Islamic Architecture and meshed them together to create a self-sustaining complex (Hybrid Building) that includes all the functions one needs when living in the city.
The project is located on an empty plot next to the City hall.
On the far right is the train station and on the far left is the sea.
The two existing structures are a kindergarten, a public school and a theater.
The project links all of these together into a micro-cosmos and revitalizes this city center.

Approaching the project after arriving by train.
Creates a familiar image similar to triumphal arch and hints at the rich history Akko has, and is nowhere to be found when you enter the city.
On the left side of the section is the gallery and new entrance to the existing theater.
On the right side is the new Coffeeshop.
On the top is the new public garden.
View to the new Coffeeshop.
View from the new theater and gallery entrance.

View from the City Hall garden.- Gallery and Coffeeshop plans.

- Gallery Interior from bottom to top.

On the left side is the access to the public roof garden through the gallery

- Pub and Coffeeshop.

- Apartments offer higher standards than currently available in Akko.
150sqm units with two bedrooms and large open planning.
The design is meant to attract a more upscale clientele and young families who would not be able to afford such large apartments anywhere else in Israel.
Upper floor, entrance.
Main living area.
Section through apartment.
