The opening page for the Skittles micro site transforms the whole page into a pile of Skittles. The computer’s mouse turns into a shovel and with every move you make on your computer, Skittles get shuffled around. As soon as you start moving the Skittles around, you start to hear the voice of Violet. She tells the viewer to “keep on going”, “move those Skittles out of the way” and “you’re almost here!”. Once you move enough Skittles out of the way, she appears...
“Well hello there, my name is Violet and I have dedicated my life to making Skittles Fortunes. I bake them in my very own kitchen. I don’t do this alone of course... my unicorns help me with every step of the way. Would you like to receive your skittles fortune today?” Once you receive your Skittles fortune, Violet comes back and offers you a proposition. “Now that you’ve received your Skittles fortune for today, why don’t you come to my kitchen and help me bake some more for tomorrow?”
When the audience clicks the unicorn, they will be asked to upload a photo of their face. Their face will then be mounted onto, in this case, a wad of gum (which relates to their fortune). The wad of gum and aliens will be dancing, while your face remains stationery. This is a humourous way of getting the audience involved and making them part of the experience. They will have the option of uploading their fortune to facebook or Twitter.
When the audience clicks yes, you are brought fourth to her kitchen. Violet will welcome you with how to play the game you about to embark on. She will direct your attention to the top of the web page.
The glowing unicorn head will move across the bar. When the unicorn passes over a Skittle, you must hit the corresponding key on your computer. Violet will be rapping a song as she cooks, and the rap will be coordinated with the unicorn moving across the bar. Essentially, you will be rapping and cooking with her in a fun game.
