Attempts to slip my hand into the machine of absolute material accuracy and retrieve a unique aura have resulted in a few broken bones and countless discoveries. Reanimating antiquated machines of mass production and subversion of material allow me to transmogrify my shifting personal history into a distilled contemporary afterimage. In my studio practice, I methodically reinvent my image into an elastic form that can stretch between my personal and cultural ideals. Conceptually I am remaking my own mischievous monster, melting crayons, abstracting photographic information into tangled lines, pushing material to the ends of its original form. Each finished piece is singular in its physical form but suggestive of the multiple through its material presence.

Analysis of content is desperately slow in comparison to perceptual response. I want to expand the first moment of surprise, laughter or confusion rather than challenge the viewers visual read. Common themes present in all forms of my work include child as hero, body dimorphic disorder, corporal impermanence and psychological transcendence. My studio functions as a laboratory where material is the variable, method is the catalyst and I am the constant.
