The Perito Moreno Urban Forest

The Perito Moreno Urban Forest  2011
Developed under the guidance of Stefano de Martino, with additional assistance from Dr. Rachel Berney, "The Perito Moreno Urban Forest" was a community-building and environmental justice response to the task given to the interdisciplinary (architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning) travel studio, which partnered with the City of Buenos Aires as a part of their Haciendo Buenos Aires campaign, to identify and propose public space solutions for the industrialized and underserviced region of southern Buenos Aires. The design proposed transforming the studio site, Avenida Perito Moreno, into a community-designed and -driven urban forest. The  research process included extensive mapping exercises and provided ideas for how to engage community members in the design process in addition to encouraging the growth of the existing "forest" through community foresting activities and outreach. The final project was selected to be featured in the 2011 edition of the USC School ofArchitecture’s IDWorks publication, which annually highlightssome of the best and cutting-edge work being produced at the School.
