Developing Leaders of Tomorrow
The Washington Center for Academic Internships and Seminars connects college students to real-world internships in the government, non-profits and corporations. The client wanted to highlight some successful alumni who give back to the community and the program. I worked with a copy writer to craft the content around the major successes of the year. We conducted interviews of key alumni to include as profiles throughout the annual report. These first person testimonies about the impact of the programs help supporters and donors to better connect with the mission of the institution, and underscore the need for Center's programs in cultivating leaders within the community. By commissioning a photographer and art directing photo shoots in and around the nation's capital, I was able to capture some of the students, teachers and alumni in action. Showing the actual students was far more engaging and has more impact than stock photography would have been able to achieve. These photo shoots served as a basis for a photo library which the Washington Center could access for future projects and press releases. The theme of this annual report was to show how the Washington Center has a strong foundation in leadership, while they are always evolving, moving forward, and looking towards the future. I decided to show this movement towards the future by printing in the directional wavy lines which play across the photography and lead the eye left to right. For further emphasis, I applied a spot varnish to the lines, so that they carried more impact across the piece.This annual report kicked off a successful year that included new grants and corporate partnerships which allowed the Center to break ground on a new campus dorm, enabling them to provide housing for students while in the academic program.
