The Safe Crackers- PACT university project

A collaborative project that involved the contributions from Digital Media, Theatre, and Creative Music Technology practitioners.

The brief revolved around the story of a mysterious crate having been washed up on the seaside shores of Scarborough. The contents, a locked safe, with a sum of cash to be claimed by entering a lucrative quiz show headed by eccentric Billionnaire Adam Richman.

My contribution had included heading the visual design and overseeing the marketing and promotions of the event. This involved producing all the of the posters, maintaining our Social Media Facebook page, and liasing with the project manager to invite the Mayor of Scarborough to the event- in order to bolster our event.

This project involved the culimination of different disciplines; Graphic and Digital Design, Audio production, Dramatic arts, Film and video editing. Below are some samples of my involvement, but also a final video-clip is shown that was included as part of the assessment.

- NUMBER FORTY TWO CHALLENGE EVENT POSTER
Above: The finalised version of the promotions poster for the event. This poster was displayed around the University, and it was intended to drum up interest and encourage prospective participants to sign up to the event. The concept was intended to be clean and crisp, using a three-colour system to maintain high contrast in the poster.

I used a jogsaw piece centred within the poster as a metaphor to illustrate the nature of the event. The event itself has involved solving a series of arithmetic and problem-based puzzles- therefore graphically this seemed to suit the theme. Blue and White was used as a matter of increasing the contrast.
- NUMBER FORTY TWO CHALLENGE EVENT POSTER- DEVELOPMENT
Above: The process of coming to the final idea. The poster started out (far left) as a singular jigsaw piece with text overlaid- however it was decided that the concept be re-worked due to the level of the text and the difficulties in reading the text. At this stage I experimented with colours to find the right tone (far right- final).
The design of a Novelty cheque- a fake cheque for the value of Ten Million Pounds, from "Adam Richman". This was produced to go inside the locked safe which was showcased on the night. The winners then recieved this cheque.

This cheque added comical value to the event and was a nice finish to the event. The design was based on the designs of real cheques by making comparisons and designing around significant features.
Above: Visual screenshots showing the storyboard of a spoof newscasting video that reported the story of the mysterious crate. This was played on the event when the guests arrived to tell them a story.
Above: Screenshots of a video showing a storyboard of the News story that supported our project. Inset bottom left-right: Mayor of Scarborough talks about the noteriety of finding the crate in Scarborough. Please find the video via this link: https://vimeo.com/172391913
Final News Channel video clip: This short clip is a culmination of all the team's efforts, and was shown at the event in the attendance of the Mayor and participants.

The video was one small part of the project to support our event and add some realism to our event.
