La Lune Est Mort: Book Publication Design

The starting point we were given for our conceptual development of this book publication project was a book called “After Death: an anthology of stories about death”. From this starting point, I developed a concept which looked at death as a process which is not necessarily linear (as much Western belief holds) but cyclical, shown through the symbol of the moon and its ties with the concept of rebirth. The book begins with only a few words on the page. More and more words begin to come through until the centre of the book is whole (a visualisation of the full moon phase), before the words begin to drop off once again leaving the final pages sparse once again; a full cycle and a visualisation of the concept of rebirth. The navigation system throughout the book allows to reader to identify which phase of the moon and book they're currently at, while the subtle use of white ink alludes to the ethereal and delicate nature of the moon and of death.
