DEPECHE MODE - PLAYING THE ANGEL

Design for Music - Vinyl Cover and Ad Campaign 
 
Interpretation of Depeche Mode album, called Playing the Angel,
with digital campaign created to encourage fans to interpret album
in their own individual way.

Brief
Using any form of graphic design/photography/illustration create a cover design
or digital campaign for a band or genre of music of your choice, A digital
release needs some form of innovative lyric sheet such as interactive pdf, a 12
inch record sleeve, cd sleeve or even a series of sleeves, all of which make up
your campaign.


BAND: Depeche mode
Depeche Mode are an English electronic band formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex.
The group’s original line-up consisted of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher,
and Vince Clarke. 

ALBUM: Playing the Angel
Playing the Angel is the eleventh studio album by the English electronic music
band Depeche Mode, released in the United Kingdom on 17 October 2005 by Mute
Records and in the United States and Canada on 18 October by Sire Records and
Reprise Records. It was supported by the Touring the Angel tour.


Album Interpretation
From my personal point of view, this album is very intimate, full of confessions
and questions about guilt, reflections and unique views of religion (slightly
controversial) challenging questions about price of living on path which is
chosen only by individual awareness of rights.

Main Inspirations
Religion. Bible. Lilith Myth. Pain. Indictment. Different interpretations of
Angel themed - (“Playing the Angel which is a Devil Companion”). “...Striped
Heart” - Ripped paper to reflect pain, guilt, anger. Blood drops - Pain and
wounds as metaphor of guilt pain. Collage to connect those all feelings of inner
discussion, chaotics in their existence.

ONLINE CAMPAIGN

My Idea is to create a social Media Campaign which would support
a creativity of users, by motivate them to interpret the album on
their own individual way. My main point is to create a competition,
where fans would share they photos with hashtag #PlayingTheAngel.
The Rule of competition is simple - Make a photo of your interpretation
of words ‘Playing The Angel’. Share it with hashtag#playingthangel.
Five best photos would be rewarded with VIP Tickets to Depeche Mode
Touring The Angel, which would give a winner a chance to meet the Band.
Competition could work on Social Media such as Facebook, Instagram, 
Twitter, Google+ etc.
