20th Biennale of Sydney

The Biennale of Sydney is a non-profit organization that presents Australia’s largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts festival. The theme for the 20th Biennale of Sydney: The future is already here — It’s just not evenly distributed talks about the increasing dependence on virtual world of the Internet where humans inhabit a space where physical and virtual worlds are increasingly overlapping. It suggests that technology has already surpassed the idea of what the future could look like.

Likewise, the design concept of this dual-purpose poster/flyer revolves around the idea of this. The gaps from the shapes made up of circle, lines and grids represent the space between the physical and virtual world, whereas, the graphic of them intersecting one another represents the overlapping act between the two. Basic shapes have been introduced to us since we were toddlers and the idea of how the shapes could come to form a separate graphic that appear to look futuristic shows the notion of how technology has already surpassed the idea of what we imagine the future to look like. To accentuate the idea of the theme: The future is here — It’s just not evenly distributed, I have designed the quote to be separated so that it might not be easily readable to represent the idea of how the future is not evenly distributed and have already surpassed our idea of what things could look like.
