Nicholas Rauber's profile

Outdoor Wish Foundation

A partner and dentist at Aesthetic Dentistry Group in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Nicholas “Nick” Rauber, DDS, is also an active philanthropist and recently added a new venue to the fundraising Swollfest event, called the Outdoor Wish Foundation. Swollfest is Dr. Nick Rauber’s annual fishing rodeo, home office based out of Baton Rouge, which raises funds for several organizations including the American Diabetes Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Each year, Swollfest’s Outdoor Wish Foundation chooses an individual or two to provide a unique, individualized outdoor experience that is fully funded. The organization selects veterans or other individuals with injuries or disabilities and offers them the gift of spending time in the outdoors, which can be a wonderful and often healing experience, especially if that person has trauma in their past.

The 2014 recipient was sergeant George Wells of the US Army, who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and was wounded on one of his 200 missions to the Middle East. The Bayou branch of the Quality Deer Management Association donated a special Action Track Chair, which is a kind of wheelchair that can work in outdoor terrain so that Wells could go hunting. Wells shot a large bull elk that was mounted for him in his home by Wade’s Taxidermy so he could always remember the special trip.
