This project was a MySpace redesign for a promising new singer / songwriter, Edie Wellman. At the time, MySpace was the social network for independent musicians and the artist wanted a custom designed page to help stand out from the myriad of other users.
Prior to this project, the artist had never worked on any aspect of a visual brand for herself. We began by listening to her music and discussing a wide variety of influences that have helped her grow as a singer. The end result was a design the draws heavily upon the singer's hometown - specifically the North Davidson (NoDa) area of Charlotte, North Carolina. This area was the home to many of her first performances, houses a very artistic community, and evokes a juxtaposition of Southern tradition mixed with unfiltered creativity that lies at the core of her musical style.

This custom video element was displayed directly below the audio player and dynamic Twitter feed. Upon reviewing the first draft design, the artist wanted to showcase more of her photographs than I was originally able to accommodate. For the final draft, I created this video element to serve as a styled picture element.
Collaborating with the artist's photographer, Ryan Mason, the final design was able to showcase Edie's beauty as a female singer, while the supporting design elements worked to make users feel as if they were on a walk through downtown Charlotte, about to see one of her shows.
Pulling from the theme of NoDa, the main visual elements chosen revolved around city lights, exposed brick, and event posters layered on top of each other. To further emphasize the custom nature of this design, I collaborated with a web developer to rearrange the media player (bottom left corner of the screenshot above) so that a large photo of the artist could become the main focus. The purple color palette was selected by the artist herself and I am very pleased with the overall look.
