Digital Cinematography 2 - Using Tiffen Filters

Pro Mist 7
For this shot of my bass player, I went with Pro Mist at a 9, because I loved the light, smoky effect that shows. It adds to the feeling of the shot, taking what could have appeared sinister, and making it look more "angelic" or innocent. It also brightens his features and helps to smooth out his rough facial features.

Bronze Glimmerglass 4
I decided to use this filter because I liked the warm tone that it added to my son’s complexion. It also balanced out the overhead light rather nicely, and added more of a smooth effect to his features. I had to turn the Blur down to 50, and it still has a bit of noticeable blur to it, but I'm sure with some practice, this could be a really nice filter to use for portraits.

Self-Potrait: Soft/FX 3
For my self-portrait, I decided to use the Soft/FX filter at 3-strength. Anything higher and I was too blurry to be satisfied with. However, at 3, it was just enough to soften out my rough appearance, and I feel it helped to eliminate most of the intimidating look that I'm told I always have. It also made my complexion more balanced, so that my face wasn't as orange, and made the shadows under my eyes less distinguishable.
