Project Parameters:

Judging Criteria:

Randomly assigned teams consisting of one young architect, contractor and carpenter apprentice work together in an 8 hour long construction competition to realize the architect's design.
The competition begins 2 weeks prior when the teams are assigned, the topic of the competition is revealed and each team draws their specific theme from a hat. Together they brainstorm an idea, the architect contributing the design and visualization, the carpenter: their assembly know-how, and the contractor: their scheduling and cost-estimating.
Each team is given $500 dollars and 2 weeks to work out the design, purchase the supplies and figure out the best sequence of construction. On competition day the 3 teammates work together to build their project in an 8 hour time span. Teams must stay within budget, finish their project in the time allotted and stay true to the documents in order to have a chance to win.
The challenge for my 3rd try at the competition was to design/build a garden storage "shack" inspired by a randomly selected architect. We drew Antonio Gaudi.
Inspired by the brickwork and windows of Colonia Guell, I sought to leverage my skills in parametric design and my carpenter's expertise in skateboard ramp building.
