A winter task that started out from producing a publication about family is being taken into further development of making a monogram.
A family publication was intended to discover history about the family members (especially grandparents) and to finally design a monogram for them. Images below are my work development starting out from a few sketches to finalized design, embroidery on a hankie as well as an extra work for monogram. (Extra work was not compulsory but encouraged)

I put emphasis on my granfather's initials because he is the most respected person in my family. He was born in 1947 and grew up as a normal rural boy who finally landed a job as a naval officer. The sketches below are deeply inspired from a metal plate that he received over his lifetime achievement. I also included some navy-inspired theme into the monogram. His initials are A, R & M. 3 letters combine up into a 3 dimensional triangle.

• Second image is where i develop the work on illustrator, I was having difficulties on how to adjust the letters perfectly into the shape. (see how the progress is different from when I sketched it on a paper & finally use illustrator to develop the work)

• 3rd image is the final vector monogram. I'm genuinely quite pleased by the outcome though I shall admit, they did not resemble so much to the initial design. When I finally took the design to embroidery support session before handing it in, it didn't take me long to adjust the design so it could easily be embroidered on a piece of fabric (hankie). I changed the strokes (to where the thread needs to go across on the letter) to 60 degrees from 45 degrees. The lines are perfectly separated into different layers so I've encountered with zero hassle after transporting the image into embroidery software.

• 4th image shows several extended project on monogram (including the compulsory hankie). A single approach (lasercut) for most works. I was aiming to do more than just a laser cut throughout the summer. woodcut shows the result of playing around with strokes and negative space outside and inside the letters itself. I couldn't decide which one looks better so I brought home 2 of them.
