Atlanta United Concept Designs 2017

Having been a resident in Atlanta for almost a year now, and being a football loving British gentleman, I was excited to find out Atlanta was finally getting an MLS franchise. No real details have been release design wise from the club yet except for the club name and badge, which I found a little disappointing and generic based on other more ambitious team names in the US focusing on their local heritage/culture (Portland Timbers, Chicago Fire, New England Revolution, etc).

I decided to go about designing the potential kits for their inaugural season of 2017, just to stretch my creative muscles. The initial response I've had from the soccer community in Atlanta has been crazy, and I was very flattered by the interest.
Home Kit: The inaugural Atlanta United home kit I feel will be along these lines to go with the chosen official colours (red, black, gold) and the new team badge. I went for a classic, stylish look and used the gold as the highlight colour instead of resorting to white in order to give this Atlanta team a slightly different look from their stadium neighbours, NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Home GK Kit: The goalkeeper kit is influenced by the official city flag of Atlanta which features a yellow phoenix create on a blue background. I felt the colours contrasted the outfield kit well in order for better visibility on the pitch during set pieces.
Away Kit: The inaugural Atlanta United away kit is a tribute to Arthur Blank, owner of Atlanta United, as well as having a local design appreciation that references the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, and fellow Mercedes Benz Stadium neighbours, the Atlanta Falcons. This contemporary kit that embraces the traditional sporting colours of Atlanta whilst creating it's own Atlanta United identity.

GK Away Kit: Vibrant and contrasting against the white of the outfield kit. The orange and amber glow of the GK Away kit is a reflection of Hotlanta and the summers here in Atlanta.
Third Kit: The optional third kit Atlanta is a break away from the traditional colours to provide a vibrant third kit to avoid colour clashes. The colours here are a lot more ambitious and specifically aimed at what makes Atlanta United unique, the local fan base, the ATLiens. The alien green colour is a reference to not only the local term ATLiens, but also a mild link to the debut album of Atlanta's hip hop legends, OutKast. The cross section created by the black lines is a reference to the railroad crossing that helped to found the city of Atlanta. This bright and ambitious strip is associated with the bright and vibrant multiculturalism of Atlanta, a beacon of light as the progressive world city of the South.

GK Third Kit: A reflection on the city in a forest, an alternate colour scheme that combines with the third kit to add an extra part to the local Atlanta themed strip.
