2011 Lumens ist ein künstlerisches Projekt rund um die Beleuchtungselemente einer Stadt, in diesem Fall im Rahmen der Stadtfeste von Valls, den „Festes Decennals de la Mare de Déu de la Candela“. Werke von Bill Viola, Ann Veronica Janssens, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Soledad Sevilla, James Turrell und Xavier Veilhan, Ignasi Aballí, Iván Navarro, Ester Partegàs und Frederic Perers waren zu sehen.
Der Katalog ist als ein weiteres Element der grafischen Identität definiert, mit der die Veranstaltungen bekanntgemacht werden; er stellt den Höhepunkt dar. Wir wollten die Essenz des befristeten Zeitraums und des industriellen (groben) und lässigen Flairs von 2011 Lumens zum Ausdruck bringen und haben den Katalog in fünf Teile unterteilt: Einführung und Kontextualisierung zu 2011 Lumens; Text des Kommissariats; Darstellung der Lichtanlagen, definiert als visueller Weg von Beginn bis Ende der Route; Biografien der Autoren; Eröffnungsveranstaltung.
Für den Katalog wurden verschiedene Papiertypen miteinander kombiniert, um das Papiergewicht und die verwendeten Tinten optimal zu nutzen. Das Papier des Deckblatts ist absichtlich so gewählt, dass zwischen dem zerrissenen Aussehen des Umschlags und der glänzenden fluoreszierenden Farbe der Innenseiten ein Kontrast entsteht, eben um das erwähnte lässige und temporale Flair zum Ausdruck zu bringen.

2011 Lumens was an art project that presented a series of light-based works distributed along a route in an urban setting. The event was organised within the framework of the Decennial Festival of the Virgin of Candelaria, which is held in the Catalan town of Valls. It featured works by Bill Viola, Ann Veronica Janssens, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Soledad Sevilla, James Turrell, Xavier Veilhan, Ignasi Aballí, Iván Navarro, Ester Partegàs and Frederic Perers.
The catalogue – designed in line with the graphic identity defined to sign the route leading to the works – is the crowning glory of the event. The aim was to convey a sense of the transitory nature of 2011 Lumens and its industrial (i.e. not very elegant), haphazard character. The catalogue is divided into five parts: introductions and background information on 2011 Lumens; a text by the curator; a section on the light works, which offers a visual overview of the route from start to finish; biographical notes on the participating artists; and a section that focuses on the opening event.
Throughout the catalogue, different types of paper are combined to optimise the grammage and the inks used. The paper used for the cover was chosen to create a rough edge on the fold, which contrasts with the bright fluorescent colour used inside.
