Armasaurios (segunda parte, 17-28)
Después de unos meses, retomo la carga del resto de Armasaurios. El post anterior (aquí) abarcaba desde el 1 hasta el 16, con éste completo la colección de los 28. Como un añadido, estoy incluyendo en algunos casos los bocetos iniciales, para que tengan una cierta idea del proceso de trabajo.
Ya en este punto de la colección, los animales no eran ya casi nada "saurios"; casi todos son mamíferos bien definidos, excepto el ave Phorusrhacos y el extraño Estemmenosuchus. Sin embargo la colección conitnuó con ese título y creo que no hubo problemas ni quejas.

18 Rodhocetus
Esta criatura era una ballena con patas, carnívora como sus antecesores. Trate de darle una sensación subacuática, por lo menos en las sombras del cuerpo y el color. No hubo tiempo de hacerle más efectos de agua delante...
This was a carnivorous, legged whale. I gave it an underwater feel with the shadows and the color, but time constraints prevented me from adding some more bubble effects or such.

21 Arsinoitherium
Parecido al rinoceronte, pero sin relación con él. Aquí probé a inclinar la línea de horizonte para hacer un poco más dramática la escena de la embestida. Verán que el boceto tiene la cabeza en un ángulo un poco distinto, y es más pequeña también.
Similiar to the rhino, but unrelated to it. Here I experimented with a Dutch angle, to give the scene a bit more drama. You can see the sketch had a smaller head, and in a different angle.

22 Phorusrhacos
Este es uno de los dibujos que me gustan más de la colección. De por sí esta ave me gusta bastante, pero creo que el dibujo, con sus sombras y colores, es bastante especial.
This is one of my favorites in the entire colection. I realy like this creature for some reason, but as for the drawing itself, I like how the shadows and colors turned out.

Una vista más detallada. Definitivamente, con más tiempo, se puede llegar a detallar mucho más, pero también buscaba una textura y sensación más sueltas (aparte de lo que la restricción de tiempo obligaba)

23 Daeodon
También conocido como Dinohyus, era un "cerdo terrible" y enorme. Se ve la figura un poco "recortada" sobre el fondo, pero la postura y la mirada me agradan. El boceto es quizá más orgánico... es un poco difícil cuando aspectos del boceto no se traducen del todo al dibujo final, aun cuando técnicamente todo está en el mismo sitio.

It's kind of hard when some aspects or the feel the sketch cannto be translated to the finished piece, even if technically everything is in its place.

24 Glyptodon
Un armadillo gigante de Sudamérica. No sólo me gusta la pose y la expresión aquí, sino también el detalle de la caparazón, que extraje de una foto tomada en un museo.
A giant armadillo from South America. Not only do I like the pose and the expression of the animal, but also the work i did on the armor, based on a close-up photo taken in a museum.

... y aquí se ve el detalle de la armadura. Los pelos los hice con un pincel de Photoshop, no los dibujé uno por uno... aunque igual requiere cierta maña para que queden bien.

La pose de éste fue relativamente fácil porque hay muchas referencias de rinocerontes actuales, aunque las proporciones en este animal son notoriamente distintas.

Aquí no tuve escapatoria, ¡tuve que dibujar pelo por pelo! En varias capas incluso, y con detalles de nieve pegada.

26 Estemmenosuchus
Este animal era una especie de protomamífero, todavía medio reptil. Me gustó hacerlo por la cabeza tan rara que tiene, además de su cuerpo tan distinto. Además, no sabía que existía hasta que me encargaron dibujarlo.
This animal was kind of a proto-mammal, not quite reptile anymore but not full-on mammal either. I loved drawing it because of that weird head and its strange body plan. Besides, I didn't know of its existence until I did this job.

Nuevamente usé el pincel de pelos para Photoshop, pero con ajustes muy distintos a los de las otras imágenes. Así logré hacer varios pelos ralos sin mucho esfuerzo.
Agian I used a special brush for Photoshop to make the hairs, just the settings were very different from what I used in the other images. I was able to "spray" all those thin hairs easily and effortlessly.

27 Paraceratherium
Cuando se trata de animales tan grandes, es complicado darles una perspectiva que muestre su magnitud, porque también debe verse el animal completo. Y éste fue el más grande mamífero terrestre... Acá necesitaba un poco menos de suelo, pero el margen era necesario para la composición posterior.
With animals as large as this one, it's difficult to make a perspective that shows the complete creature and at the same time, shows its magnitude. And this one was the largest land mammal ever... Here I think I could have done away with some of the ground, but the margin was needed for later layout.

28 Hyracotherium/Eohippus
Y para cerrar la colección, un caballito primitivo con dedos; me pidieron que lo dibujara con bastante pelo.
