Word & Image Combinations
Word and image combinations are sometimes the most difficult pairings to convey. Streamlining and synthesizing ideas is precisely what makes it so difficult. A word like love can easily evoke a million different thoughts, so I thought to streamline the word "love," by narrowing it down to an emotional (platonic) and physical (sexual) through the act of the universal symbol of love: a kiss. The first spread shows two brothers, and the second two lovers.
I initally experimented with the word "tired," in which I tried to convey the distinction between being physically and emotional tired, but it certainly was less successful.
The images include type, handwriting, graphic elements and are set up on a grid that is meant to evoke a magazine article, with subsequent hierarchy.
