Poggioreale
The old area of Poggioreale, struck by a terrible earthquake in 1968, is both protagonist and location in the artist’s photographic project. The photographic image by its nature captures the moment, fleeting or motionless. Through his shots, on the contrary, Savettiere doesn’t only seize the moment but links the routine of everyday life before the earthquake to its own transformation or even cancellation after the tragedy that struck the inhabitants of the Valle del Belice small town, forcing them to seek a new location for their houses. During five years of shooting, after quiet and introspective explorations, Savettiere photographed those places and got the sense of their “metamorphosis” as a continuos symbiosis between ruins and nature and its slow but progressive triumph over the rest. This is a portrait of what remained as frozen, skeletons of an abruptly stopped life.
