Garden House Dragør

Garden House

The assigned site for this project lies in Dragør, a small town in the outskirts of Copenhagen.
It faces towards the sea and the world, with the horizon always dominating the experience.
With a size of approximately 2500 m2, the first initiative was to explore the possibility for a town like scale.
At a place like this where the landscape is almost flat, the heaven becomes the greatest part of our view. The space that we cannot enter without manmade mechanics and techniques. Questioning how one could inhabit a place like this, participating in a small group we started a drawing size 2500x2500 mm. Trying to come up with ways to break down barriers and challenge the way people see suburbia.

When answering the question how we would make a dwelling for a family, the question of habitation occurs. What do we as people fundamentally aquire for a settlement and how can we minimize these factors. Drawing a house seems like a reasonable enough challenge, but this project became a bakwards process where the dwelling first manifested itself as a slab with a wall, fireplace and a curtain and manifested as a traditional house. Sorrunding the slab was the garden, the interpretation of the world made of flowers and vegetation planted by people. The garden became the artificial manufacturing of the world.

After numerous drawings and houses, the dwelling thought evolved as an abstraction of a place.
A set of dwellings that each explored natural phenomenons of the world. Spaces that explores the heaven and skies, a place that challenges the artificial world, rooms for children to explore the space that we cannot enter withouth help, and a garden of curtains that itself become a corridor. Spaces that are not reasonable, but will touch and provoke the mind.In the end, one could look at this project as never finished, but at the same time always finished. The abstraction of these spaces become objects that are places for the mind to dwell in.
